Mission Statement

Our Mission

The mission of All Together is to improve the quality of life of the community of Greater Williamsburg by bringing together people across racial, ethnic and cultural lines to communicate and engage in activities that foster unity, inclusiveness and equal opportunity.

All Together provides opportunities for people to gather socially to exchange ideas and learn about one another. Through an annual scholarship for graduating high school seniors, we recognize students for their kindness and spirit of bridge-building.

“The legal system can force open doors and sometimes even knock down walls, but it cannot build bridges. That job belongs to you and me.”

“Treating different things the same can generate as much inequality as treating the same things differently.”

“Seeing race is not the problem. Refusing to care for the people we see is the problem. The fact that the meaning of race may evolve over time or lose much of its significance is hardly a reason to be struck blind. We should hope not for a colorbind society but instead for a world in which we can see each other fully, learn from each other, and do what we can to respond to each other with love.”

Do more than be fair: be kind.
Do more than forgive: forget.
Do more than dream: work.
Do more than teach; inspire.
Do more than earn; enrich.
Do more than give; serve.
Do more than live; grow.
Do more than suffer; triumph.

For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.
